About the Andonis Foniadakis Workshop:

This course offers an in-depth exploration of choreography through the lens of acclaimed choreographer Andonis Foniadakis, led by long time assistant and collaborator, Alexander Hille.  Participants will delve into Foniadakis’s unique style, creative process, and choreographic techniques, gaining insights into his innovative approaches to movement, composition, and storytelling. Through a combination of theoretical study, practical exercises, and learning repertory, students will  explore Foniadakis’s unique movement vocabulary, and develop new skills, while drawing inspiration from Foniadakis’s prolific body of work.

Prevalent themes include spatial dynamics, rhythm, musicality, gesture, traditional dance, and collaborative approaches to choreography. By the end of the course, participants will have expanded their physical and interpretive toolkit and gained a deeper understanding of the art of dance through the perspective of Andonis Foniadakis.

Description

About Alexander Hille:

The US-American, graduated from the Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing artists in his home state of Minnesota, and continued his education receiving his BFA from the Juilliard School in New York City. He has performed off Broadway, with Austin McCormick’s Company XIV, was a Principal artist with Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal under the direction of Louis Robitaille, Benjamin Millepied’s Los Angeles Dance Project, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Les 7 Doigts de la main, Foniadakis Dance, and Cirque du Soleil (“Vitori”).

He has worked with choreographers Andonis Foniadakis, Anabelle Lopez Ochoa, Itzik Galili, Cayetano Soto, Mauro Bigonzetti, Alexander Ekman, Marco Goecke, Ina Christel Johannesen, Roy Assaf, Guy and Maria Campos, Aszure Barton, Ioannis Mandafounis and Benjamin Millepied. During his career he has had the desire and privilege to develop his own choreographic work. Most notably with a commission from Minnesota Dance Theater with the cooperation of the Leonard Bernstein trust, fashion week in Montreal for Charlie Le Mindu, and most recently having his work DEPROGRAM performed in the finalists gala of “El Certamen Burgos & Nueva York” in Burgos, Spain. He is also assistant, and rehearsal director for his dear friend and mentor Andonis Foniadakis, having set works and assisted creations for him around the world. He has been a member of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz since September 2020.
